I used to think a low carb breakfast meant giving up anything that felt like a treat. Then I started folding whipped cream into Greek yogurt and topping it with warm berries, and now this low carb berry yogurt bowl is what I make when I want breakfast to feel a little indulgent without derailing anything. If you’re into fruit-forward mornings, my classic acai bowl is another one I make on repeat.

My youngest calls this “the pink one” because of how the berries stain the whipped yogurt when I stir them in. I usually make it on Sunday mornings when nobody is rushing out the door, but honestly it comes together fast enough for a Tuesday too. The first time I made it, I almost skipped whipping the cream and just stirred everything together cold. I’m glad I didn’t.

Whipping the cream first is what gives the whole bowl that thick, almost mousse-like texture, and it’s a step I never skip now. Once the berries are warm and jammy and the yogurt is fluffy, you just spoon one over the other and it looks like way more effort than it actually took.

What You’ll Need

Here’s what I use, along with the ingredient list. Sugar free sweeteners can vary a lot in sweetness, so taste your yogurt mixture before you divide it into bowls and adjust if you need to.

  • ½ cup blueberries
  • ½ cup strawberries, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sugar free granulated sweetener (for the berries)
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups plain Greek yogurt
  • ⅓ cup sugar free granulated sweetener (for the yogurt)

Contains dairy (heavy cream, Greek yogurt).

In my experience, full fat plain Greek yogurt gives the creamiest result here. Low fat versions work fine too, but the bowl will be a bit thinner. My go-to swap when I’m out of fresh berries is frozen. Just add an extra minute or two to the cook time so they release their juice.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Pro tip before you start: have your mixing bowl and beaters cold if you can. It helps the cream whip faster and hold its peaks longer once you fold in the yogurt.

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the blueberries and strawberries with 1 tablespoon of sweetener. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries soften and release their juices and the mixture turns glossy and jammy. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and remaining sweetener until stiff peaks form. This usually takes 2 to 3 minutes on medium high speed. Watch it closely toward the end. Overwhipped cream turns grainy fast.
  3. Fold the Greek yogurt into the whipped cream gently, using a spatula, until no white streaks remain. Divide the mixture between bowls and spoon the warm berries on top. Store any extra servings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Notes

Full fat Greek yogurt gives the creamiest result. Frozen berries work in place of fresh; add 1 to 2 extra minutes of cook time. Does not freeze well once assembled. Contains dairy (heavy cream, Greek yogurt).

What to Serve With Low Carb Berry Yogurt Bowl

This bowl is rich enough to stand on its own, but a few things round it out nicely if you’re serving it for brunch or want something alongside it.

  • Toasted nuts: A handful of sliced almonds or chopped pecans adds crunch against the smooth yogurt.
  • Crispy bacon: The salty, savory contrast plays well off the sweetness of the berries.
  • Iced coffee: A cold brew or iced latte keeps the whole plate feeling light and summery.
  • Chia seeds: A small sprinkle adds texture and a bit more staying power if you need this to hold you over until lunch. If you want something more filling alongside it, a small side of my peanut butter oatmeal breakfast bowl rounds things out nicely.

Storage & Serving Tips

This keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days when stored in an airtight container. The whipped texture softens a little over time, but it still tastes great.

I don’t recommend freezing this one. The whipped cream and yogurt mixture separates once thawed and loses that fluffy texture that makes the bowl special.

If you want to switch it up, swap in raspberries or blackberries for the berries, or use a mix of all four for more color. You can also spoon the mixture into a jar and layer it with the berries for a parfait style breakfast that travels well.

My Favorite Sauces for This Bowl

If you want to dress this bowl up even more, a drizzle on top takes it from breakfast to something closer to dessert. These are the pairings I actually reach for in my own kitchen.

  • Warm mixed berry sauce: Simmering extra berries down into a loose sauce and drizzling it over the top intensifies the fruit flavor without adding much extra prep, since you’re already cooking berries for the base recipe.
  • Honey or sugar free maple syrup: A light drizzle ties the tang of the yogurt together with the sweetness of the berries.
  • Sweet three ingredient yogurt sauce: A simple yogurt based sauce spooned over the top adds another creamy layer without competing with the berries.
  • Vanilla bean glaze: A thin vanilla glaze drizzled over the berries echoes the vanilla already in the whipped cream and makes the bowl feel a bit more special occasion.
  • Cinnamon honey drizzle: Warming honey with a pinch of cinnamon before drizzling adds a cozy note that works especially well on cooler mornings.

Conclusion

This low carb berry yogurt bowl has become one of my regular breakfasts because it feels like a treat but keeps things simple. Whip the cream, warm the berries, fold it together, and breakfast is done. Try it this week and see if it doesn’t become a regular in your kitchen too. If you’re building out a rotation of high protein breakfasts, my cottage cheese breakfast bowl is worth adding next.
